About Balm House

There is a quiet hum beneath the surface of things;discarded fragments, forgotten objects, bits of the everyday that hold stories when light touches them just right. Balm House resonates with that hum.

Founded by artist Mel Myskowski, Balm House is both studio and shelter, built from light, reflection, and the slow work of repair. It exists between art and environment, reflection and ritual. It is a greenhouse for the soul—a place where the unseen begins to bloom.

Each room within the House offers a different way of seeing:

Fine Art as the Mind, where one glimpses beyond the veil.
Adornment as the Body, where touch becomes transformation.

Home as the Heart, where the handmade meets the living space.

Working with found materials and elements of transparency, Mel’s practice becomes an act of unearthing—reshaping the ordinary into meditations on identity, release, and healing through connection with the self, the land, and the collective. She is drawn to what hides beneath the surface, to what is revealed by obscurity the places where growth begins unseen.

Lately, her practice turns toward the living world: the land as healer, life and death as teachers. Common nature objects appear as both physical material and symbolic presence in two and three-dimensional works. These works, inspired by Jungian ideas of the house as self, become vessels for growth, fragile, luminous, and alive with quiet metamorphosis.
